Suicide bomber kills five in Pakistan: police

A suicide bomber rammed an explosives-laden car into a police and frontier corps checkpoint in northwestern Pakistan early Monday, killing five of them, a local police official said.

The official said the attack occurred at Baran Pul, about 50 kilometers (31 miles) east of Miranshah, the main town in the North Waziristan tribal region bordering Afghanistan.
Local police official Salim Khan said 17 people were injured and seven were in a critical condition.
A number of the injured have been transferred to hospitals in nearby Bannu.
