Car bomb in South Ossetia capital

South Ossetia's government says a car bomb has exploded at the Russian army's headquarters in Tskhinvali, the capital of the separatist region, killing six people and injuring four.

Friday's blast comes amid persistent tension following Russia's war with Georgia over South Ossetia.

The breakaway region's press department said a car that had been confiscated in an ethnic Georgian village after weapons were found in it exploded near a building where leaders of the Russian peacekeeping force were located.

The department said the blast had damaged the headquarters and broken the windows of neighboring buildings.
